I see your breast and raise you a bottle!

Shit, I actually have to get some work done today.

To sum up

We’re damned if we do and damned if we don’t. Sad face.

Sad.

I think that breast feeding is a wonderful thing. The problem that I had with it is THE EXACT opposite of the problems that everyone else here seems to have. Mainly, I was made to feel guilty for not breast feeding. So many disappointing ‘tut tuts’ from other women when they found out that I did not breast feed. “Don’t you know it’s healthiest for your baby?” “Don’t you know your depriving your baby of nutrients that formula cannot give?” As a new mom (and as I think all new moms can attest to), I was made to feel guilty about every little decision I made with respect to raising my kid. So, I think I speak for all of us when I say “Back the fuck off.” We all raise our children differently and guess what, for the majority of them, they turn out great. Breast feed them until they’re 5 - I don’t care. Don’t breast feed them, I don’t care. Just let us moms do the best we can with what scarce resources and training we have. We all promise to try our best (or is it breast?).

You’re right, and I’m sorry if I implied that anyone was doing it wrong.  My point, which I can see I didn’t make very well, was that I’ve seen a lot of people who quickly say no way, it’s not natural, we’re not going to do it at all.  There are lots of myths out there. “Breast fed babies don’t put on weight.” Stuff like that. That has nothing to do with having decided not to do it because it doesn’t work for you.

However, I go with what hoppypoppy said:

Breastfeeding is normal and natural, as long as everyone involved (READ: the mother and child, not anyone else) are comfortable with it and it works for them.

So if it doesn’t work for Mom or Child, there you have it.

I apologize for mistakenly implying anything otherwise.

Oh, no, no, no. I wasn’t talking about you. I think what you said was great. You never implied that one MUST breast feed. You simply stated how it is natural and good. I absolutely agree with that. I was speaking about all the people who butt their noses into raising YOUR child. Let me take a stand here: I agree with all the points you have all made. I was just trying to point out that women on both ends are made to feel guilty about it.

Sad.

What really annoys me to no end is the fact that I feel the need to go in and edit my previous post to explain that my son is still just a toddler and he’s not like 5 or 6 or something and he only breastfed until he was 27 months old and then only 3 times a week before his naps and I wanted him to wean himself but he just wouldn’t and and and…

That makes me incredibly sad, that I would feel the need to “explain” something normal and healthy and beneficial that I did for my child, simply because our culture considers breasts to be fun bags, useful only for the pleasure of men.

Something is very broken in our society.

My daughter breastfed until she was 3. She pretty much weaned herself with just a little encouragement. I’m sick of telling people the WHO suggests breastfeeding until AT LEAST 2 years old. Even with all the science backing up how beneficial it is, people are freaked out by it. It is discouraging.

And, y’know, I never got the argument from men on this. “What, honey? You’re the only one who can get up and feed the baby at night? Well, ok, I’ll sleep, then. If you say so.”

It’s not as simple as that, of course (though it does NOT take long to learn to change a diaper without really waking up to do it), but I really don’t get the opposition. Cheaper, easier, quicker, more convenient (for a time), and healthier.  The downside is what, exactly?

I don’t know if I’ve ever seen - let alone, operated - a door this massive. Holy hell, this place is going to be incredible.
(Taken this morning at the soon-to-be-complete August Wilson Center in Pittsburgh.)

I just love that the girl appears to be X’d out. She doesn’t count.

And if it wasn’t for me joining tumblr last week and hearting all of her stuff (c’mon, she’s fucking brilliant), she would have had to wait AT LEAST 5 minutes longer to get to that number. I thank me. No need to send gifts.

At this point, I can’t tell if FOX News is being subversive or just stupid.

OMG! LOOK HOW CLOSE TO ISRAEL THEY SUDDENLY ARE! WE MUST INVADE NOW! NOW! NOW!

Does anyone else have a problem with EGYPT BEING ON THE WRONG CONTINENT? Or is it just me?

I want to be able to pull this off for halloween. But, I’m afraid that I would just end up looking like Joan Jett.
